If Text Messaging is enabled for your district, you can text a student's parents or guardians right from Attend. This article shows you how to send a message and what to do if a parent or guardian doesn't have a mobile number on file.
How to send a text message
-
In the search bar at the top of the page, search for the student by name or student ID.
-
On the Student Overview tab, click the red box in the Communications section.
-
Click the names of the parent and student. Once the name is highlighted, the message composer appears. You'll find student and parent or guardian information on the right side of the window.
- Type your message in the composer. Messages can be up to 500 characters long, and you can use the translation feature if needed. Learn more about translating messages.
- When your message is ready, click Send.

You can also review any previous conversations with this contact, if any, by using the filters to sort messages by status,Â
If a parent or guardian doesn't have a mobile number on file
You can't edit the mobile number on a primary contact directly. Instead, create a copy of the record and add the mobile number there:
-
Go to the student's details page and click the Guardian tab.
-
Click the Edit icon.
-
Create the new record using one of these two options:
- Duplicate: Makes a copy of the existing record, with all fields copied over. Just fill in the mobile number.
- Add: Creates a new, empty parent record that you fill in manually.
-
Click Save. The change takes effect immediately.
Note: Before you save, also check the Send Text box in the notification section.
- If you need to remove the new record later, click the trash bin icon in the upper right corner of the new record.
That's all it takes to start texting families from Attend. If you have questions or run into any trouble, reach out to our support team, and we'll be happy to help.
