Two-Way Translation in Attend Messaging
SchoolStatus Attend now supports two-way translation for ad hoc text messages, helping staff communicate with families in their preferred language. This feature is currently limited to the Messages module and does not apply to templated messages for interventions and conferences yet.
✉️ How Outbound Messages Are Translated
When composing a new message to a family whose home language is not English:
-
Navigate to the Messages module from the left-hand menu.
-
A “Translate” button will appear if the typed message is in English and the recipient’s home language differs.
- Clicking Translate will convert your draft into the family’s home language.
-
Once translated, the button label changes to Undo, allowing you to revert to your original message. You can choose to send either the translated or original message.
- Clicking Send will deliver the version currently displayed on screen.
This ensures you can preview and adjust translations before sending.
💬 How Incoming Messages Are Translated
When a family responds in a non-English language:
-
You’ll see a “Translate” link next to the message. Clicking it will display the English translation.
-
Once translated, the link toggles to “Show Original”, so you can switch back if needed.
Note: While this feature is intended to be active for texting districts, a disable option is available if needed.
